Mabrown makes good birds...

Last Saturday we celebrated mum's b'day at this Chinese restaurant that was opened by this lady from Sungai Petani (I think), Kedah, M'sia. I've heard so much about their quails...and here's an image of that glorious birds. Hold your breath and behold them now- Mabrown's best!

Words just couldn't describe what bliss we were in. It was totally, for me, love at first bite. My tongue would have done a summersault if it could. I just wanted the taste to linger on my tongue and to have its flavour grip onto my taste buds as long as it could. The taste was sweet, salty and spicy, with its sweetness tasted kinda honey-ish, which was sooooooo goooddd! They used both dried and fresh chillies. Their spiciness, however, I would say is quite mild. I love it so much that yesterday when thinking about it, I had some impromptu inspiration and wrote a song for these birds. Even now when I think about it my mouth waters. It goes like this:

(Sing it in 'Twinkle twinkle little star' tune)

" Mabrown Mabrown makes good birds,
How I wish to go back soon,
Up above the moonlit night,
I dreamt of cooked quails flying in the sky,
Mabrown Mabrown's quails' the best,
How I still can taste you now".

If one song wasn't enough, I thought of this song long time back that goes like:

" Ta ta da da da da da, ta ta ta da da da da da da x 2,
You're sweet like chocoloate boy, sweet like chocolate,
You gave me so much joooy, sweet like chooocolattee,
Woaah"

My version would be:
" You're sweet like Mabrown's quails, sweet like their quails,
You gave me so much joooy, sweet like their quails,
Woaah"

Princess Tina

Around 2 days ago I was in Chadstone with my family and Sportsgirl had a further markdown of 50% off their discounted items and the day before was only a 30% markdown. The day before I was at Chapel St with my boy and saw this really beautiful necklace that was $39.95, a reduction of $20 off it's original $59.95. They had a couple of it so I thought 'Just give it another few more days' and walked away. So that night when I went chaddy I knew that I had to go back to Chapel St the next day to make this necklace mine! So Chapel St we went. It was jammed as but boy was it worth it! I thought I would have had to pay $20 for this but they had again another 50% off the already 50% off the discounted items *jaw dropped*.

I walked away with this beautiful thing here in my hand and with just $9.95 poorer. Couldn't be any happier, it was basically a steal and I saved $50! Yeeaaaaow! Thanks babe for your patience :p (well we know what happened).

I could have posted this yesterday along with my previous post but thought this little blinkey here deserves her own little space. So here she is.

Ah, good buy, good buy. Patience is indeed a virtue *pats back*.

Trip to South Wharf- DFO

Recently I've just been looking at lots of fashion blogs and I found myself more inspired by entries of girls that basically just celebrate their own unique sense and taste in fashion. Some like it real loud, dark, black with silver studs and spikes. Some like it softer, more feminine and many even slide in a taste of vintage in their choice clothes and jewellery. Some want it all branded with big names like LV, Gucci, Prada, Miu Miu, Alexander Wang etc, whatever that's on the runway, that'd be the look they're after. On the other hand, there are also thrifters or even tree-hugging shoppers that prefer to look for their treasures buried amongst good quality second-hand or vintage stores. And of course we got the in-betweens, those that mix and match high end items with those that could have just cost a couple of dollars. THIS bunch is the group I love most coz their styles are just so effortlessly gorgeous. Some of them could even be minimalistic but their shoes, for example, could have like the 'KAPOW' factor! Or it could be the bag, or maybe just the nail colour. Whatever. I like them too coz at least there could be something that I could afford from their assemblage, hehe.

As for me, casual is good, whatever that's comfortable yet presentable. Dressy is good too! Hence am a flats person but heels do many times look better. Not a very huge brand person since first of all, I'm still a student and can't afford it at the time being *chucks it to back of my mind*. Any generous givings would be happily accepted nonetheless :P. Haven't you heard that it's more blessed to give than receive? :D :D

Anyway, back to the reason of this post. So today went out with Jon to DFO in South Wharf and got these two peach coloured babies from Forever New. LOVVVEE IT!! And it was on sale. Score! Love the beigy *bling* there. These photos were taken using my wonderful SLR but blogspot really crapped up the resolution when I enlarged it (default size too small!). Meh. Any tips would be great!

The art of Monsters, Inc

More than a week ago I was starting to illustrate some blobby monsters that have real gappy, rotten-teethed grins. Little would I know that I would stumble across this little gem in my uni library when I was there to see a staff. This movie would undoubtedly be within my Top 5 Favourite Animations list, so much so that I actually went to JB Hi Fi the next day or so and got my hands on the DVD itself. Boo must be my most favourite Pixar character!! I would squeeze her to death if she was real and standing in front of me.

The book was just filled with so many developmental sketches of the main characters that looked waaaaaay different from the final outcome. Here's just a few of my favourite pages from the book.

Lil' Mikey would like to say...

Mummy Mon

Daddy Mon

...to the world! With him are his mum and dad. You might say that Lil' Mikey could have been a girl since he's carrying this flower CD player (yes old school), well, let's just say that his mum hand sewed it and insisted that he used it.

Initially I was trying to illustrate a Miniature Schnauzer but sketches after sketches still couldn't get it to how I'd like it to look. Meanwhile I side-doodled and eventually found it more fun to draw and paint out my version of slobbery, gel-like monsters...at least when they're young. As they grow up, they start to develop stronger legs and arms, more hair too if they were males :P Females, however, still glide, they don't walk. Despite their differences and colour, one characteristic common through all of their life stages are their large, yellow 2~3 front teeth protruding out of their mouths.

By the way, after it all I thought Lil' Mikey resembled the River God from 'Spirited Away' heaps. Don't you think? I'd say great minds think alike then, hah.

Official Summer Debut!

Finally a proper post for my first ever blog is up! The idea of starting a blog myself after seeing so many fantastically creative and inspiring ones budded at late 2007, with my very first post that was perpetually stamped with the 'under construction' notice lasted from 8th September 2007 till now, exactly 2 years and 2 months after, which I've just deleted coz it looked out of place with this new colour and layout. It took this long as I was afraid that I couldn't commit to posting good stuff regularly, which I guess is what makes any blogs alive, interesting and readers inspired, entertained and therefore frequent them. Nevertheless, starting a blog with my own illustrations and inspirations had always been at the back of my head. So here it is, after so long, haha!

This blog, however, is still in its trial phase hence it would only lasts through this summer holidays, like a little summer project for myself. If I could stick to it, I'd continue posting throughout the year. *Fingers crossed*. Do leave comments so I know who's reading this so I'd feel more encouraged to keep posting! :D

Above is an illustration of myself using gouache and photoshop. Hope you like it!
